Welcome to Our First Newsletter of 2009

McKeary Desktop Designs has a new name
I am pleased to send out McKeary Designs' first newsletter of 2009. After much consideration, I have decided to change the name of the company from McKeary Desktop Designs to McKeary Designs. I felt the name change better reflected the business of graphic and website design. And of course it is also a lot shorter!

The newsletters sent periodically will include hints and tips for the computer user as well as ideas on creating the best image for your marketing materials. And of course ways in which McKeary Designs can help you!

My business thrives on referrals. If you know of anyone that needs a brochure designed, a catalog created or even a website designed, just let me know and I'd be happy to talk with them. Other areas of expertise include organizing your computer, setting up databases and even training you on a variety of computer programs.

I am always looking for feedback and suggestions to improve the work I do, so please don't hesitate to give me the good, the bad and the ugly. And thanks for taking the time to read this. You can email me at cheryl@mckearydesigns.com.

P.S. If you are not interested in receiving newsletters throughout the year, please feel free to unsubscribe below. I promise not to take it personally.

Website Design
Isn't it time to have a presence on the Internet?
Was your New Year's resolution this year to get your website up and running? Do you want a website but just don't know where to start? Every business that wants a presence on the Internet generally is looking to derive business from that site. But where do you start? What should you include? I can help you work through the initial stages of what should be on your site, whether you should attempt to do it yourself or have it designed by a professional. Don't wait any longer. Send me an email today and let's get started.

Update Your Company Brochure
When was the last time you actually read your company brochure? Does it look like something from the 70's, 80's or 90's? If so, it's time to redesign and update that brochure. Get rid of that flyer that has 10 different fonts on it. I know you loved your computer when you first got it and just had to put every font available on the page. And what about that clip art that is totally outdated? Or the 20 different colors on one page? Your marketing materials need to reflect your business in 2009. Need some new materials to bring in more business? Let's talk!  Email me at cheryl@mckearydesigns.com.
PICTURE-A-DAY
My New Year's resolution for 2009 was to take at least one picture a day and post it to my website. I am happy to report that so far I have succeeded in completing the first month of my resolution. I hope you'll take a few minutes to see the many subjects I was able to find during the first 31 days. Some good -- some not so good -- but nevertheless I met my first goal. Vote for your favorite picture for January and I'll announce the favorite on my site. Click here to view the pictures.

ORGANIZING TIPS

Organizing Your Email

How many emails are in your inbox right now? 5 - 20 - 100 - can't count them all?

If you just can't bear to delete them because there is information you must have, why not organize them? Most email programs allow you to create new folders within the inbox. For example in Outlook, just right click on the "Inbox" and select "new folder". Then name the folder something appropriate like "Clients" or "Sue's emails", etc.

Once you have the folders named the way you want, drag the appropriate emails into those folders. See how quickly your Inbox will get cleaned up by putting the emails you want to save into their own folder.

Of course if you don't want the emails, just delete them. No sense in hanging on to items you don't need.

Website Traffic
Do you know who visits your website? Are you able to track where the visitors are coming from? A great (free) tool for tracking this information and learning how to drive traffic to your site is Google Analytics. Check it out. It's as easy as copying some code into your html for each page. If you have someone that updates your site, ask them to add the code for you. Check out Google Analytics here.
