  1. Complete a to-do list at the end of each day for the following day. Review this list during the day, cross off the items completed and revise the list.
  2. Set up file folders for each project or client and put the most recent correspondence on top. If needed, get file folders with additional sections to separate work further.
  3. Keep only items you use daily on your desk. An organized desk will keep your mind from getting cluttered.
  4. Annually clean out your files and toss or purge paperwork no longer needed. File old folders by year, client (or whatever is appropriate to your business) in another location.
  5. Put things back as soon as you are finished with them or set aside 10-15 minutes at the beginning or end of each day to eliminate clutter.
  6. Maintain a Rolodex file on all your passwords and user IDs. This can be done on the computer, however, it may be easier to access manually at a location on your desk.
