- Install virus protection software on your computer. More
importantly, make sure it is up to date. Most programs allow you to
create a setting that will automatically update virus definitions while
accessing the Internet.
- Back up your data. If possible, use an external drive to back up your computer
daily. If your hard drive has failed in the past, you know how terrifying it
is to lose data that cannot be recovered.
- Defrag your system after deleting and moving many files. This helps
files to open more quickly.
- If your computer is slowing down or acting strange, a quick fix can
be a restart. It doesn’t solve all problems, but may just help
those little annoyances from occurring.
- Occasionally, vacuum your keyboard and inside the CPU. (Be sure it is turned
off.) Dust, pet hair and food can get between the keys and inside the computer.
